Children’s
Strathfied Library provides activities to support children.
They offer Baby Bounce and Pre School Storytime. Baby Bounce is for children
under 3 years old. The half-hr program consists of music, rhymes and songs. Pre
School Storytime is for children 3 to 5 years old. It lasts for one hour and
consists of music, rhymes, stories, dances and an aged related craft activity. The
library also provides access to Encyclopedia Britannica, which include content
for kids. This is primarily a portal of information to users based on Web 1.0
rather than Web 2.0. Children’s activities and literature are intended for
children who may be too young to use web 2.0 to interact with other users.
In addition, the library has children literature
collections, stories, fairy tales, fables, poems, novels and non fiction. Children’s
literature can be in the form of picture books or chapter books. Strathfield
Library’s catalogue allows users to rate and provide user reviews. User can
also share ratings and reviews on social media such as facebook and twitter.
Adult Fiction
Strathfield Library has adult fiction collection. Its
social catalogue allows users to rate and give reviews and share their ratings
and reviews using social media such as facebook. Again, rating and reviews is
the use of Web 2.0 in the library.
In addition, Strathfield Library also provides access
to elibrary in which adult fiction in the form of audio book and e-book is also
available.
Local
studies
Strathfield Library has Local Studies Collection, a
collection of historical and current resources with regards to the history,
geography, heritage and current life of the Strathfield Local Government Area.
These resources are in the forms of books, reports, environmental studies,
maps, plans, oral histories, local newspapers, newspaper clipping files,
pamphlet files, and photographs. The Local Studies Collection is mainly a
reference collection in the sense that most items are not for loans. If
multiple copies of an item exit, items may be available for loan from the
general library collection. Senior high school students often find the Local
Studies Collection useful when completing their geography and history assignments.
Strathfield Library also electronic resources such as
Strathfield Council Community Profile and Strathfield Council Economic Profile.
They are portals which provides information about various aspects of the
Strathfield Local Government Area.
